Motivational Monday - Sewing Pillow Covers

I have the opportunity to put some of my pillow covers on display in a show room.  I have probably 100 pillow cover fronts in stock but they are not sewn up.  Generally, I sew them when I have an order placed.
When the opportunity arose to be able to display these in a show room with someone who works with designers, I knew I had to get some sewing done.
The designs shown are all the ones I've chosen to sew as options for the display.  I'm thinking the floral ones will be displayed in spring / summer.

Which of our many pillow covers are your favorite? Comment below!

Feature Friday - MosaicPendantsPlus

What is the background on your business name?
I decided on the name MosaicPendantsPlus, as I wanted the primary focus of my etsy shop to be on mosaics. I wanted to create larger pieces of jewelry that are unique pieces of art that are slightly bohemian or at least unusual in design and would appeal to those who like to stand out as individuals prefer an original look as opposed to mass produced.

Where are you located?
I work out of my home. I have a room dedicated to my art work with most of my supplies organized on shelves, but I find that I spread out throughout the entire house, as I need to work in natural daylight.

What do you sell?
My initial focus for selling my jewelry has been my etsy shop, which I still actively maintain, but I now have some of my jewelry in a few local shops. I also participate in a few farmers markets and craft fairs throughout the year.

What do you enjoy about creating your jewelry?
I love the process of combining different mediums and colors to create an original piece of jewelry. I love the way that the resin brings out the colors and textures of each component of each piece. I get very excited when I get a new idea for a design to see if it works in actual practice.

What inspires your creations?
Often it is a particular piece of china, stained glass, semi-precious stone or bead that starts off the creative process for an individual piece of jewelry. I get ideas in my head of designs that I try to re-create in my jewelry. I love to see people wear my jewelry and I especially love it when I get customers who keep coming back for more!

Motivational Monday - Canning

Last week was one busy week!  Monday and Tuesday were spent in the kitchen canning more vegetables for the winter months ahead.

Monday, together with my lovely daughter, we canned 21 quarts of dill pickles!

Tuesday, I canned 31 2 cup packages of corn....yes I way over estimated how much we actually needed!

My neighbor informed me that this week she would be bringing me tomatoes to can.  Hopefully I bought all the groceries need to do all the canning that I intend to do!

Feature Friday - Nancy Blokland Pottery

Today's feature is Nancy Blokland Pottery.

What is the background on your business name?
I chose this name for my pottery for its simplicity and clarity. It tells what I do, and since I have a very uncommon name, I thought there would be no confusion created with another
Nancy or Blokland.

Where are you located?

I have a studio in my home with a small studio, wheel and kiln and also fire at Stoneware Gallery for certain colours that I like from the gas kiln.

What do you sell?
I sell functional pottery or tableware made in porcelain and stoneware, no casting or molds. Just one piece at a time. Most recently I have begun making buttons and love making these tiny pieces of art.

How long have you been doing pottery?
I have been making my whole life, and making wheel thrown pottery for over 30 years.

What inspires your creations?

I am inspired by the colours and textures of antique dishes, the Caribean sea and my garden.

Any social media links/sale/giveaway or anything else you'd like to share with my readers?
This fall I will be at Sunflower in Yorkton, Homespun in Carlyle, ETSY MIC in Winnipeg and the Manitoba Fibre Festival. I love doing sales for all the oppportunities to meet new and old customers and get ideas for new creations.

Would you like to have your Etsy shop featured on my blog?  Please e-mail me for consideration!

Motivational Monday - Getting Organized

I'm kind of embarrassed to show you all this mess.  However, it's looking much better!  I've been organizing my craft room and have been getting a lot more ambition to get into there.  I've been enjoying my sewing time for orders, working on my Etsy shop, making cards with my daughter, and just getting ideas of things I'd like to make!

 Added paper organization.

Look for more photos of my craft room to come in the near future.

Friday Feature- Narra Nest

Here's my first Friday Feature on Narra Nest, a Manitoba Etsy shop!
What is the background on your business name?
My business started when I was pregnant with my daughter. I was in nesting mode - sewing all the bedding and decorative items for her nursery when I thought "Hmmm, maybe I could do this for a living!" So I wanted to include the word "nest" or "nesting" in the name. I also wanted it to be about my family, and Narra is just my last name, Arran, backwards.

Where are you located?
I work from my home - a century old farmhouse on a quite acreage in Western Manitoba that my husband and I have recently moved in to and are slowly working to fix up!

What do you sell?
Narra Nest is a line of super soft, 100% organic bedding and accessories for babies and little ones. My most popular items include drool pads and strap covers, baby blankets, crib bedding, burp cloths, and bibs.

What made you decide to start selling organic baby items?
While pregnant with Junebug and servicing my raging nesting hormones, I began sewing items for the new nursery; a change pad cover, crib skirt, sheets, etc. Perhaps the fog of my never-ending-morning-sickness was playing tricks on my mind, but somewhere along the line I began to think that perhaps these adorable and cuddly little baby items could be the perfect marriage between my love of sewing and my lifelong dream of entrepreneurship.

What inspires your creations?
I am always inspired by the beautiful textiles that I source for my shop. I love finding colorful prints with modern style that can grow with your child - fun but not too babyish. But mostly, I am inspired by the everyday rituals I share with Juniper; snuggling up to nurse before her nap, reading a book before bedtime, listening to her baby babble chatting while we eat our lunch. It means the world to me that my products will be there with your little one for the bath time cuddles, the bedtime stories, the Saturday morning cartoons, the picnic blanket lunch times, the first night in the big girl bed, and all the other special moments along the way.

Anything else you'd like my readers to know about?
Every month I giveaway a different product to one of my lovely email subscribers. Sign up once, and you're entered to win every month!

Motivation Monday - To Do List

Need to get motivated?

Feeling like you're not getting enough accomplished?
Use a reusable, erasable, magnetic to do list to create your list for the day or week.  As you accomplish things, check them off.
At the end of the day, you can look at all the things you've accomplished and feel good about it!
And because it's reusable, you can erase your list and write a new one for the next day OR just erase the check marks and reuse the list from the day!
