Feature Friday - Casual Goddess - And Winner Announced

What is the background on your business name?

I called my hand made jewelry shop on Etsy "Casual Goddess" because I specialize in casual jewelry for everyday wear. All my jewelry is really colourful, most of it being hand painted on ceramic, with designs that are distinctively my own. The "Goddess" part comes from my own connection with Goddess energy. However, while some of my pieces are of goddesses themselves, I incorporate many other motifs. Much of my jewelry is unisex as well.

Where are you located?

I currently live in Manitoba's Interlake region, not far from Arborg.

What do you sell?

I offer pendants, pins, hair accents, rings, buttons and bracelets, some of which are glazed, kiln fired stoneware or porcelain pieces, and some of which are hand painted with acrylics on stoneware. I am happy to customize colours.

What do you enjoy about creating your jewelry?

What do I enjoy about creating my jewelry? I have to say that I love playing with colour, and I love utilizing many subjects in my jewelry design, from birds and animals, mermaids and goddesses, flowers and symbols. The subject matter is so varied. No two pieces are ever alike. I love to have fun with jewelry.

What inspires your creations?

I am inspired by colour as well as by the natural world, and by creating wearable art that no one else creates. I also love hearing back from my customers who tell me that they received a lot of compliments on one of my pendants, for example. That, for sure, inspires me to want to create more. Even the smallest pendant can be an eye catching conversation piece. It really is great when you hear people are talking about your designs!

Feature Friday - Wee Feather Designs

Introducing Wee Feather Designs

What is the background on your business name?
Oh this is tough. Never really thought about why my shop is named Little Feather Designs. It was a name I came up with to describe who I sew for and kind of the image I wanted. I thought of my boys and how they are so much the same but yet so different and when doodling a feather I realized the two sides of a feather were so different but yet they were one. My ship was then indirectly named after them. The trendy and earthy combining and blending patterns and textures to make a piece cohesive. *since the writing of this post my shop name has had to unfortunately change due to someone else having the rights to a similar name. I still wanted to leave what I had written about Little Feather Designs as it still resounds regardless of what my name is. Wanting to keep with my brand and my name I came up with all sorts and landed on Wee Feather Designs which I thought was fitting in keeping with my trendy, whimsical children's label but also invoking my Celtic roots.*

Where are you located?
I sew out my home out in the beautiful Canadian Shield.

What do you sell?
I make bibdanas, bunny ear teethers, quilts and apparel ranging from slouchy toques and headbands to harem pants and leggings. All of the pieces I make are used with the highest quality of fabrics I can find. I try to use as much organic fabric as possible and really try to use renewable fibres like bamboo and hemp.

What made you decide to start selling your product?
I started sewing a lot when I was expecting my first child and was nesting. I really started to realize the stuff that is sold out there and what we are willing to spend our money on just wasn't up to my standards of what I was willing to accept for my kids. It's so disposable and unsafe for us, our children and environment. I knew I couldn't make an impact on a grand scale but I could on a smaller scale. Plus I also had to find a way to help alleviate my fabric spending. Making gifts for family and friends became a little costly so my little sewing business was born.

What inspires your creations?
My boys inspire me as well as my surroundings of the Canadian Shield and pretty much all that the earth has to offer. I want my pieces to evoke that magical feeling when you were a kid hiking through the forest or splashing in the water. The way plants and bugs look to you when your a child and just the general sense of curiosity that is all around us but kids are the most responsive.

Feature Friday - Chunky Knitz

My apologies for not getting a post up this week for Motivational Monday or Wordless Wednesday.
This week has been crazy busy and I'm hoping to get back at this blog thing in the next week!

What is the background on your business name?
The background on ChunkyKnitz is that when I learned to knit a couple of years ago, I only wanted to work with chunky yarns so that I could finish items in a timely manner. I am results-oriented and like to have the finished product in my hands. In time, I began using all weights of yarn but as someone who enjoys wearing chunky knit wares I felt the name was still fitting.

Where are you located?
I am located in Charleswood in Winnipeg.

What do you sell?
I sell scarves, cowls, headbands, hats, boot cuffs, cup cozies, and bags.
What made you decide to start selling on Etsy?
I deduced to open an Etsy shop on the advice of a friend. She suggested that I start selling online and as I had made an abundance of purchases on Etsy, I knew it would be a good fit for ChunkyKnitz.

What inspires your creations?
I find inspiration in many places. I see traditional pieces in my city that are timeless like cable knits. I think back to pieces that my Gramma made as an avid and long time knitter. I see new fashion trends online that I would like to incorporate into my pieces. Most recently, I just get an idea in my head and experiment. New items are always being created and listed.

Anything else you'd like to share with my readers?
I just concluded a giveaway on Instagram for 500 followers, the next one will be for 1,000. I am just shy of 200 likes on Facebook and will consider doing one when I reach another milestone.

Please be sure to visit Chunky Knitz and leave a comment with your favorite piece from their shop!

Also, if you'd like to be featured on my blog, send me an e-mail with your shop link for consideration.

Feature Friday - Colour Addiction

What is the background on your business name?
I named my shop colouraddiction because I love colour and we use a lot of colour in the tents we make.

Where are you located?
We are located in Altona Manitoba.

What do you sell?
We sell beautiful playful tents, made from upcycled fabrics. They are often used as bed canopies or serenity spaces but they have also been used to house wedding cakes and as photo props.
What made you decide to start selling your beautiful, bright tents?
My Daughters have always loved tents. When they were little it was all the sheets and blankets draped from clothes lines and trees in the yard. Then as they got older we created these tents to play in. We made a few to sell and soon we made more and more and now we have made over 150 and we sell them to tent lovers all over the world.

What inspires your creations?
Often this is how it works; I get a really great fabric and I hang it on the design line and it just guide me to the rest of the fabrics that work well with it. Some tents have themes and others are random. I find the seasons and my mood play a lot into what the tent look like.
